Human impacts

Humans have interacted with the ocean since ancient times. We have used it for transportation, recreation, a source for food and raw materials, and more recently to generate renewable energy. All these activities have an impact on the marine environment. Human activities on land can also impact our seas and ocean and pose threats to the well-being and functioning of marine ecosystems.
