8th EMB Forum on Supporting the Ocean Decade in Europe
Today, speakers and participants from Europe and beyond gather at BluePoint in Brussels and online to attend the hybrid 8th EMB Forum on Supporting the Ocean Decade in Europe. Ocean Decade stakeholders from a wide range of backgrounds and stakeholder groups will discuss how Europe can support the further development and eventual achievement of the Ocean Decade. The event will also highlight the activities that the European Marine Board is undertaking to support the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development.

NEW Future Science Brief: Addressing underwater noise in Europe: Current state of knowledge and future priorities
EMB Future Science Brief N°7 outlines the current state of our knowledge on the sources of anthropogenic sounds and the effects of noise on marine organisms. Moreover, it provides an overview of the measures that have been taken to address the issue of underwater noise. In order to develop proportionate mitigation strategies and effective regulation, we have to advance our knowledge about the effects of anthropogenic noise on marine organisms and their ecosystems.
EuroSea leads Policy Brief on Sustainable Ocean Observation and Management
Ten innovative EU projects to build ocean observation systems that provide input for evidence-based management of the ocean and the Blue Economy, have joined forces in the strong cluster ‘Nourishing Blue Economy and Sharing Ocean Knowledge’. Under the lead of the EuroSea project, the group published a joint policy brief listing recommendations for sustainable ocean observation and management. The cooperation is supported by the EU Horizon Results Booster and enables the group to achieve a higher societal impact. On 15 October 2021 the policy brief was presented to the EU.
EMB attends EcoScope project kick-off conference
On 28-30 September 2021, EMB Executive Director, Sheila Heymans, and Science Officer, Ana Rodriguez, attended the kick-off conference of the new EU funded project EcoScope, in Thessaloniki, Greece.

Three of the EMB Young Ambassadors organized a workshop on communications on 23 September 2021 as part of the ICYMARE 2021 Conference.
Save the date for the 8th EMB Forum
Save the date for the 8th EMB Open Forum on Bridging between marine science and policy to support the Ocean Decade in Europe” which will be taking place on Wednesday 1 December 2021. This will be a hybrid event held at BluePoint in Brussels and online.
New Executive and Finance Officer joins EMB
Jana Van Elslander joined the European Marine Board Secretariat as Executive and Finance Officer on Monday 16 August 2021. Jana obtained a bachelor’s degree in Applied Psychology at the HoWest University of Applied Sciences in Bruges, Belgium. Once graduated, she decided to go in a different direction. For the last few years she has worked as operations manager for an international fashion company where she handled sales, logistics and general operation. At EMB, she will manage the day-to-day running of EMB as well as handling finances and HR matters.
