Potential impacts of marine carbon dioxide removal on ocean oxygen

On Thursday 19 March 2026, EMB will host its 58th Third Thursday Science Webinar featuring Prof. Andreas Oschlies who will present on the topic of "Potential impacts of marine carbon dioxide removal on ocean oxygen".

This webinar links to EMB Future Science Briefs No. 13 'Monitoring, reporting and verification for marine carbon dioxide removal' and No. 10 'Ocean oxygen: the role of the ocean in the oxygen we breathe and the threat of deoxygenation'

Andreas Oschlies is a Professor of Marine Biogeochemical Modelling at GEOMAR and the University of Kiel, Germany. His research interests include the global carbon, nitrogen and oxygen cycles, their sensitivities to environmental change, and the development and quality assessment of numerical models appropriate to investigate these. He was co-Chair of the EMB working group on ocean oxygen.
