In this edition of the ECOP Wednesdays event series, hosted by the EMB Young Ambassadors and the EMB Secretariat for the EMB ECOP network, Chloe Delpont-Ramat, Audrey Hasson and Babis Ipektsidis spoke about "Shaping early careers’ perspective of Digital Twins of the Ocean".
The first presentation was on "EDITO: Building the core, public infrastructure of the European Digital Twin Ocean: Introduction to the EDITO-Infra Platform & Science-To-Policy Applications of EDITO" given by Chloe Delpont-Ramat and Audrey Hasson from Mercator Ocean international.
Chloe is currently a fullstack developer at Mercator Ocean international working on EDITO Infra - an EU-funded project building the core public infrastructure for the European Digital Twin of the Ocean initiative. She has a background in computer science and arts, and has been working in the marine science sector for nearly one year. Prior to this, she was working as a software engineer for 10 years in the virtual and augmented reality as well as in the crisis management sector, which complements her work today to build a user-friendly and impactful EDITO virtual platform.
Audrey is the EU coordinator for the GEO Blue Planet Initiative, hosted by Mercator Ocean International as part of the EU4OceanObs EC Horizon Project. She is a trained physical oceanographer specialised in remote sensing. She holds a PhD from the University of Toulouse and has worked as a postdoctoral researcher for the American, French and European Space Agencies (NASA, CNES and ESA).
The second presentation was on "ILIAD: Digital Twins of the Ocean: Developing virtual representations of the sea integrating earth observing, modelling and digital infrastructures to provide predictions of future developments "at sea" given by Babis Ipektsidis from Netcompany-Intrasoft, Belgium.
Babis is a member of the coordination team of the EC-funded ILIAD project. He has a Masters degree in European Studies on Society, Science and Technology and a Masters in International Business Studies from Maastricht University in the Netherlands. He has been working the last 15 years in European projects, initially as an innovation policy analyst,and the last years in project management and innovation as a Senior Project Delivery Manager at Netcompany-Intrasoft.
