The EMB Navigating the Future publication series provides foresight on priorities for marine science and policy with each edition building on the messages of previous publications, taking the next steps in helping us to understand and manage the Ocean, learn how to use its resources sustainably, and keep benefiting from the services it provides. The sixth edition, Navigating the Future VI, considers the role of the Ocean and marine science in the wider Earth system. It presents the marine (natural and social) science research we need to help us address the challenges facing the planet and identifies key collaborators to find solutions.
EMB Policy Brief No. 13 presents the main research and policy recommendations within four themes, Ocean and People, Ocean and Climate, Ocean and Fresh Water and Ocean and Biodiversity. These themes align with the outwards-looking themes presented in Position Paper No. 28 “Navigating the Future VI: Placing the Ocean within the wider Earth system”, launched at a dedicated event at Talk C.E.C in Brussels, Belgium on 23 October 2024.
The recommendations from this document will be further discussed at the 9th EMB Forum on 'Addressing coastal and water resilience on the land-sea interface' to be held on 2 April 2025.
