Peter Haugan and Stephen Hall elected to IOC-UNESCO Executive Council (26 June, Paris)

Congratulations to Peter Haugan (former EMB vice-Chair, University of Bergen, Norway) and Stephen Hall (EMB delegate, National Oceanography Centre, UK) on their election to the IOC-UNESCO Executive Council as Chair and vice-Chair, respectively. The elections took place during the 28th session of the IOC Assembly on 24 June. The Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO promotes international cooperation and coordinates programmes in marine research, services, observation systems, hazard mitigation, and capacity development, such as tsunami warning systems and the Global Ocean Observation System (GOOS). The Executive Council meets every year to review on-going work plans and make preparations for the Assemblies.
