This working group aims to to assess and present the current status of molecular approaches for the observation and management of marine life, including key European and international initiatives. It will focus on highlighting the science and policy gaps and needs to advance the uptake of molecular tools in marine science and environmental management.
The working group consists of 13 experts from across Europe with diverse expertise in -omics technologies and bioinformatics. They met to brainstorm on the current state of the art, future technology and research needs, methodological standardisation and knowledge gaps to support decision-making and support the wider uptake of molecular methods for research and policy needs. The group also developed the draft table contents for the document, and developed a work plan for the development of the Future Science Brief.
