ECOP Wednesdays - Thoughts on the future regulation of ocean observing in the European Union

On Wednesday 7 December 2022, EMB hosted its 6th ECOP Wednesday series event featuring Dr Erik van Doorn who gave his thoughts on the future regulation of ocean observing in the European Union. The event was 1 hour long and took place from 12:00 - 13:00 CET. 

In this edition of the ECOP Wednesdays event series, hosted by the EMB Young Ambassadors and the EMB Secretariat for the EMB ECOP network, Dr Erik van Doorn gave his 'thoughts on the future regulation of ocean observing in the European Union'.

Dr Erik van Doorn studied in Groningen, Utrecht and Tromsø. He worked in the legal office of the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea in Hamburg before he moved to the Kiel University for his PhD in international fisheries law. Since then, Erik has been working as a research associate at the Walther Schücking Institute for International Law at Kiel University where he has been teaching and researching international law. In his current research, Erik focuses on mineral and living resources, the legal implications of ocean observing (at GEOMAR) and the legal aspects of marine uptake of carbon dioxide.
