In this edition of the ECOP Wednesdays event series, hosted by the EMB Young Ambassadors and the EMB Secretariat for the EMB ECOP network, Tanya Brodie Rudolph and Lucas Becquet spoke about "The Collective Path Towards IPOS - the Role of Youth and Early Career Practitioners".
The ocean’s sustainability is at risk, and urgent action is needed. The International Panel for Ocean Sustainability (IPOS) is an emerging concept aiming to support States to accelerate the implementation of their respective international commitments for the sustainable management and conservation of the ocean. IPOS could address policymakers’ priority questions by providing actionable pathways and recommendations. These will be developed through inclusive involvement of knowledge and rights holders and the mobilisation of their diverse knowledge systems and adapted to the contextual priorities of end-users.
Tanya Brodie Rudolph is co-lead at the Ocean Sustainability Foundation (hosted by the CNRS Foundation), and an International Environmental lawyer specialized in Public International Law, Maritime and Environmental Law and Policy. She is a Research Fellow at the Centre for Sustainability Transitions (CST), of the Stellenbosch University, leading a research line applying a complex systems approach to the transition in ocean governance. Tanya is an expert on the High-Level Panel for a Sustainable Ocean Economy, an advisor to the Institute of Environmental Justice and an expert advisor to Ocean Visions, among others.
Lucas Becquet has worked as a "Towards IPOS project officer" for the Ocean Sustainability Foundation (hosted by the CNRS Foundation) since February 2023. He is in charge of the Coalition of Scientific Institutions in support of IPOS and the Towards Knowledge Committee Development team. Lucas holds a master’s degree in international security, with a focus on Environmental Security, from the Paris School of International Affairs (Sciences Po, Paris). Lucas has various professional experiences in advocacy and project management, working for several NGOs dedicated to the protection and promotion of Human and/or Environmental rights. He worked as a national advocacy assistant for the Ocean & Climate Platform (OCP).
