EMB attends Atlantic Ocean Research conference (16-17 April, Brussels)

On 16-17 April 2015 the European Marine Board joined over 200 international stakeholders in Atlantic ocean research for the conference "The Atlantic - Our Shared Resource: Making the Vision Reality". Held at the Palais d'Egmont in Brussels, the event was opened by Mr. Carlos Moedas, EU Commissioner for Research, Science and Innovation and Mr. Karmenu Vella, EU Commissioner for Environment, Maritime Affairs and Fisheries. The political statements reflected on progress since the launch of an Atlantic Ocean Research Alliance and the Galway Statement on Atlantic Ocean Research Cooperation, signed in May 2013 by the EU, Canada and the United States. The meeting launched a number of 'Galway Statement follow-up projects' funded by the European Commission under the Horizon 2020 Blue Growth calls. Speakers highlighted the importance of international cooperation with South Atlantic partners including Brazil and South Africa and followed up with a scientific workshop on Southern Atlantic marine science cooperation held on 15 April 2014 in Brussels to specifically progress this issue.
