EMB Executive Director Sheila Heymans’ publishes opinion article ‘Managing Marine Ecosystems Today and into the Future’ in the May/June issue of EcoMagazine.
The article outlines challenges for marine ecosystem managers and policy makers when faced with multiple stressors on the marine environment and the science needed to manage human impacts on our changing ocean. The challenges for science include knowing what is there and how it might change over time. We need more sustained observations of ocean physics, chemistry and biology and models to make well-validated predictions. The nature of the ocean means that governance requires a global perspective and progress is being made.
