Fiona Grant elected Chair of the European Marine Board

Dr Fiona Grant, Head of International Programmes at the Marine Institute in Ireland, has been elected as the new Chair of the European Marine Board. Dr Grant has represented the Marine Institute at the European Marine Board since 2014, and has served as EMB vice-Chair since 2020.

Dr Grant, who has a background in marine geology and geophysics, is the National Contact Point and National Delegate for Cluster 6 projects (Food, Bioeconomy, Natural Resources, Agriculture and Environment) under Horizon Europe, and is the national expert for the Mission to Restore our Ocean and Waters by 2030.

The election of Dr Grant at the EMB plenary meeting on 24 April has been warmly welcomed by the EMB members and by her own Institute, as seen in their press release. In her address to the EMB members, Dr Grant highlighted her enthusiasm to work together with the Board in harnessing the collective expertise and resources they represent and use them to benefit the Ocean and future generations.

Dr Grant replaces the outgoing EMB chair, Dr Gilles Lericolais (Ifremer, France), who served for five years. Dr Lericolais' contribution to the EMB during his tenure was highly commended by the EMB members, and the Secretariat expressed their appreciation of his hard work and dedication.
