European Marine Board Communication Panel announces Tymon Zielinski as New Chair

The European Marine Board Communication Panel (EMBCP) is pleased to announce the election of Prof. Tymon Zielinski as its new Chair. Prof. Zielinski, from the Institute of Oceanology of the Polish Academy of Sciences (IO-PAN) in Poland, will bring his extensive experience and passion for marine science communication to this important role.

Prof. Zielinski has been an active member of the EMBCP since 2017. Currently serving on the EMBCP Steering Committee, Prof. Zielinski has been instrumental in advancing marine science communication and ocean literacy initiatives across Europe. One of Prof. Zielinski's notable contributions includes co-organizing four editions of the CommOCEAN conferences, including taking the lead role in the 2020 edition. These conferences are vital platforms for marine science communicators to share knowledge and innovative practices. His active involvement in developing the EMBCP-lead "Marine Science Communication in Europe: A way forwardEMB document further highlights his commitment to enhancing the communication of marine science.

In addition to his work with the EMBCP, Prof. Zielinski represents Eastern Europe in the Group of Experts for the UN Third World Ocean Assessment since January 2024. His role in this global initiative underscores his expertise and dedication to the sustainable management of ocean resources. At IO-PAN, Prof. Zielinski leads the Climate and Ocean Research and Education team. His dual focus on research and communication ensures that his work is both scientifically rigorous and accessible to a broad audience. His leadership at IO-PAN and his extensive experience in marine science communication position him perfectly to guide the EMBCP into a new era of effective and impactful communication.
