Marine Science Communication in Europe – new EMB Future Science Brief

Today, EMB launches its Future Science Brief N°8 ‘Marine Science Communication in Europe: a way forward’ in a dedicated webinar. Over the coming decade, marine science communication will become even more critical to achieving a more Ocean literate and sustainable society. Increased scientific dissemination and specialized communication will be required to support this increase in Ocean awareness. This document has been developed by the European Marine Board Communications Panel (EMBCP) and is underpinned by surveys among 80 European experts, 1861 students and 23 EMB Member organizations.

EMB at the UN Ocean Conference

The 2022 of the UN Ocean Conference will be taking place on 27 June - 1 July, in Lisbon, Portugal. As an accredited organization, EMB will be represented in person by Executive Director Sheila Heymans, Science Officer Britt Alexander, and EMB Young Ambassadors Rebecca Zitoun and Juliette Aminian Biquet.

EMB Annual Report 2021

Although the impact of the pandemic continued to be noticeable for all, we can look back on a successful 2021 in the end. This year marked the start of the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development, to which the EMB proudly became the very first Implementing Partner. This news was shared during EMB's 8th Open Forum, organized as a hybrid event in Brussels and online, where a wide variety of Ocean stakeholders were brought together. Brown Bag Lunch n°5 on Offshore Groundwater

On Monday 13 June 2022, EMB hosted its 5th Brown Bag Lunch on the topic of "Offshore freshened Groundwater: An unconventional water resource in coastal regions". This event included lunch, offered by EMB, followed by a presentation from Prof. Aaron Micallef, Senior Scientist at the GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre in Kiel, Germany, and ended with an interactive discussion.

Uncovering a hidden threat in Europe - new EMB Policy Brief

Today EMB launches its Policy Brief N°10 on “Uncovering the hidden threat of Marine Geohazards in Europe”. This publication raises awareness about dormant geological risks for ports, cities, and coastal communities and infrastructure in Europe, and makes recommendations for future research and policy. It summarises the main messages and recommendations from the recent EMB Position Paper Nº26 on “Marine Geohazards: Safeguarding Society and the Blue Economy from a Hidden Threat”, published in December 2021.

Publication of 8th EMB Forum Proceedings

The 8th EMB Forum Proceedings were published today and provide a summary of the discussions that took place in Brussels and online on 1 December 2021, along with key messages. Taking place at the end of its first year, the 8th EMB Forum provided the opportunity to reflect on what has been achieved for the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030) in Europe, and what more needs to be done to ensure the Decade is a success.
