EMB at OceanObs’19

EMB contributes to the pivotal conference on ocean observation with two Community White Papers (CWP) on biological and coastal observations, and on the role of stakeholders in ocean observation, both based on current EMB activities.

The OceanObs’19 conference is an international community-driven conference taking stock of the decadal progress of ocean observing networks and will strive to improve the governance of a global ocean observing system. This once in a decade conference will take place 16-20 September 2019 in Hawaii, USA. The outcomes of the previous edition, including the Framework for Ocean Observing, can be found on the OceanObs’09 website.

Community White Papers (CWPs) are an integral part of the OceanObs conference series, gathering the collective knowledge of the community to evaluate and propel the efficacy of our global and regional ocean observing networks. The CWPs are published in a dedicated Frontiers in Marine Science open-access Research Topic and are available online. The European Marine Board contributed to this international effort with two CWPs:

As a first outcome of the conference, the Program Committee collected high-level recommendations from CWP authors and synthesized them into a short summary of the needs of the observing community.

Isabel Sousa Pinto, member of the EMB Working Group on biological ocean observation, will participate in the OceanObs conference on behalf of the European Marine Board and will present a poster from the CWP “An Integrated Approach to Coastal and Biological Observations”. The poster is available here.
